Inflight Wi-Fi internet

The future of inflight internet is coming.

Better inflight Wi-Fi is on its way. We're launching a new, satellite-based Wi-Fi service from Gogo, which will let you stream, browse, and chat from gate departure to gate arrival. The new service will debut in April 2018, and gradually expand to our entire Boeing and Airbus fleet by the end of 2020.

Once we switch an aircraft to satellite internet service, you can expect:

Satellite Wi-Fi installation progress

As we gradually install satellite Wi-Fi on our Boeing and Airbus aircraft between now and the end of 2020, check back here to stay updated on our progress.

This chart represents our progress on installing satellite Wi-Fi into our aircraft. It currently indicates that as of June 2018, 3 of 241 aircraft have satellite Wi-Fi installed.

On many of our planes without this new satellite Wi-Fi system, you'll still have internet access. Keep up with e-mail, post on social media, or shop online with inflight internet, currently available on our entire fleet of Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer jets. (Note: there is no WI-Fi service on our Bombardier Q400 aircraft.) Coverage is available while flying over the continental US, Canada, and parts of Alaska.

How to use satellite Wi-Fi

Cómo conectarse

Once your flight leaves the gate, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your device's Wi-Fi, and choose the Alaska_WiFi network.
  2. Open your web browser (Safari®, Chrome™, etc.) and visit AlaskaWiFi.com.
  3. Choose what you’d like to do: free texting, entertainment, or the internet.

Tips to enhance the satellite Wi-Fi experience

Courtesy, please.
When using free texting, turn your phone to silent or vibrate. Use headphones when listening to music or watching movies.

Mother Nature may have her way.
While you’ll now be able to use the system once your flight departs the gate, you may notice slower internet speeds during torrential rainstorms, while the aircraft is banking, or if there’s snow or ice on top of the plane. Also, service will be spotty north of the Arctic Circle, and will pause while flying over a small part of New Mexico and while the aircraft is being deiced.

Plan your uploads.
Our new internet system is speedy at downloading documents, but you may notice a delay with uploads. We recommend limiting the movement or uploading of large documents (those over 10 MB).

Pause auto-updates.
