The following electronic items are considered small portable electronic devices (PEDs). They are permitted onboard our aircraft.

  • Teléfonos móviles en modo avión/juego*
  • Grabadoras de voz portátiles
  • Rasuradoras eléctricas
  • Cámaras
  • Dispositivo de Posicionamiento Global (GPS)
  • Juegos electrónicos portátiles/mascotas virtuales*
  • Small tablet/laptop computers and eReaders (less than 11-inch screen size) *
  • Reproductores de CD, MP3, casete y DVD*

  • Short-range Bluetooth accessories (e.g., wireless mouse/keyboard) *
  • Implantes cocleares
  • Smart watches / Fitness trackers
  • Prótesis auditivas
  • Dispositivos electrónicos médicos portátiles (MPED)

*Due to foreign government regulations, small electronic devices and short-range Bluetooth accessories (e.g., wireless mouse/keyboard) are prohibited from use below 10,000 feet, and must be turned off and stowed on descent into and on takeoff from Mexico.

When can portable electronic devices be used during a flight?

You may use small portable electronic devices during all phases of the flight provided they are in 'airplane/game' mode, unless the Captain directs the devices to be turned off.

During your flight, you may hold portable electronic devices in your hand, in a belt or arm holster, in one of your pockets, or the seat pocket.

Devices not specifically included in the list of acceptable small portable electronic devices above must be stowed during take-off and landing, and may only be used when your aircraft is parked at the gate or when the aircraft reaches 10,000 feet. Se debe usar auriculares cuando se utilicen aparatos electrónicos que tengan altavoces externos.

Will I be able to charge my portable electronic devices?

Many of our planes do have power outlets, but there is a chance that your aircraft may not have available or adequate in-seat electrical power for your device. We recommend traveling with an ample supply of fully charged batteries to account for flight and connection time, plus 3 extra hours of battery life to cover any unexpected delays.

Additionally, when using a ventilator or respirator, you should travel with backup manually-operated supplies in case of failure of your electronic equipment during your trip, since we do not carry such equipment on our aircraft.

Can I use my phone onboard?

Electronic voice communications of any kind (i.e. cell, VoIP, Skype calls) are not allowed during flights. Las llamadas de teléfonos móviles solo pueden realizarse mientras la puerta de abordaje esté abierta en la ciudad de partida y mientras se dirija a la puerta de salida al llegar. At all other times, phones must be turned off, or placed in airplane/game mode for use as a small personal electronic device.

Which portable electronic devices are not allowed onboard?

We prohibit the use of items that do not meet FAA or Alaska Airlines regulations. These include:

  • Air purifiers
  • Electronic smoking devices - battery-operated or USB-charged cigars/cigarettes/pipes that simulate smoking
  • Electronic voice communications of any kind (i.e. cell, VoIP, Skype calls)
  • Radios - AM, FM, VHF, CB
  • Televisores
  • Remote-controlled games and toys
