    Built for the 1962 World Fair, the easily-recognizable Space Needle stands at an impressive 605 ft and towers over the Seattle skyline. The observation levels can be reached via a 43-second elevator ride and offer spectacular views of the city and surrounding landscape, with visitors able to make out Elliott Bay, the Cascade Mountains, and even Mount Rainier.

Visitors can enjoy hiking in the wilderness, camping and climbing, with the beautiful scenery a perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of life in the big city. During the summer months, wildflower meadows can be seen strewn along the many hiking trails.

    Vancouver

    Located in such close proximity to the Canadian border, visitors to Seattle would be remiss not to spend some time heading north of the border. Vancouver can be reached in just two and a half hours via the I-5 N and is one of Canada's most exciting cities. Indeed, it offers thriving arts, theatre and music scenes, while Stanley Park is North America's third-largest public open space and attracts more than eight million visitors each year.

    Mount St Helens

    One of the area's most breathtaking natural attractions, Mount St Helens is around a three-hour drive south of the city, making it a perfect day trip destination to make the most of a Seattle car rental. Located in the Cascade Range, it is part 160 active volcanoes that make up the Pacific Ring of Fire. It is well known for its regular ash explosions and pyroclastic flows. Mount St Helens last erupted in 1980.
